Campus Life

  With the Guishan Island in the far background, and the Lanyang Plain below us, the campus of Fo Guang University sits with its back to the mountain and the ocean ahead. It has not only the most beautiful scenery, rich ecological diversity of animals and plants, a faculty any university would be proud of, state-of-the-art soft- and hardware, but also its other major buildings would be gradually completed in the years ahead, which will make the university an even more comprehensive one.

  The university runs a regular shuttle that operates between Yilan, Jiaoxi and the campus. All are welcome to make full use of this service.

  The university currently has three dormitories, and provides accommodation for more than 1,200 students. In principle, the first-year undergraduates would all be allocated accommodations, and other students have to go through a ballot to obtain lodging.

  There are eateries on-campus (which includes the Waterdrop Teahouse, Rongxing Buffet, Jazz Café, Keai Fast Meals, Laozhang Breakfast, and Laozhang Fast Meals) providing all on campus access to nutritious and affordable meals. There is also the Life, Haoshiduo and Jichuan Convenience Stores to provide for daily necessities.

  Currently, more than half our students live on campus. The Yunlaiji Student Dormitory also features an office for clubs and societies, and serves as a venue for them to hold their gatherings and activities. There are two common rooms for students to read, watch televised programs and build friendships. To meet the sporting needs of students, there are also basketball, volleyball and tennis courts. In addition, there are the weight training, and, sports and recreational rooms. Furthermore, the campus has an indoor stadium (Huai-en Building) to fulfill the recreational sporting needs of all. 
  
Travel
 By train: Take the Taiwan Railway to Jiaoxi Station and transfer to the campus through the
                university shuttle or by cab.
By car: Drive along National Freeway No. 5 and exit through the Toucheng Interchange, heading 
             towards the direction of Jiaoxi Township. Please refer to the map for more instructions.
Driving route: If you are driving from Jiaoxi Township towards Yilan City, proceed until you see 
                        a police post on the right. Turn right at the next four-way intersection (with traffic 
                        lights) and you would find yourself on Shiliujie Road. Continue forward and there 
                        will be signs directing you to our campus.

Edutainment:
Sporting Facilties
  The outdoor facilities include basketball, volleyball and tennis courts, and, an archery range. Indoor ones comprise of a table tennis, pool and weight training rooms. The large indoor stadium (Huai-en Building) provides for the indoor activity needs of all. Our campus is located in the vicinity of Linmei Mountain, and enjoys great scenery and fresh air. The campus roads have also become an important location for brisk-walks and jogs.

Uniqe characteristics of our domitories
 
I. Names and capacities of dormitories:
    1. Yunlaiji Student Dormitory: provides accommodations for female students and those with r
        educed mobility (on the 1st level). There are 110 two-man, 6 three-man and 66 four-man rooms, 
        making a total of room for 502 students.
   2. Haiyun Student Dormitory: provides accommodations for male students; there are 70 four-men 
       rooms, totaling 280 beds.
   3. Linmei Student Dormitory: For male students, there are 50 four-man rooms, totaling 200 beds, a
       nd 25 two-man rooms, making 50 beds. For female students, there are 56 four-man rooms, totaling
      224 beds, and 23 two-man rooms, totaling 46 beds. In total, there is space for 520 students in this
      dormitory. (Linmei Student Dormitory is located at: 42-12, Linwei Road, Linmei Village, Jiaoxi
      Township, Yilan County)

II. Space and facilities of the dormitories:
 
1.Yunlaiji Student Dormitory:
    (1Common area: 2 common rooms, for residents to watch television programs, read papers and
            magazines, and meet with others. There is a pantry, laundry room, space for drying clothes,
            coin-operated dryer(s) and washing machine(s) on every level. The basement is home to eateries,
            café, and convenience shop.
2Rooms: Complete with bed, study desk, wardrobe, standing fan and air-conditioning unit. The toilet 
          is separated into wet and dry areas, the power system runs on card access, and there are internet cables.

  2. Haiyun Student Dormitory
1Common area1 common room, for residents to watch television programs, read papers and magazines,
         and meet with others. The lobby on the first level features 3 automated selling machines. There is a pantry,
         laundry room and space for drying clothes on every level. Coin-operated dryer(s) and washing machine(s)
        are located in the basement.
2Rooms: Complete with bed, study desk, wardrobe, standing fan, air-conditioning unit. The toilet is 
          separated into wet and dry areas, the power system runs on card access, and there are internet cables.

  3. Linmei Student Dormitory

1Common area: 2 common rooms, for residents to watch television programs, read papers and
          magazines, and meet with others. There is a pantry, laundry room, space for drying clothes, 
          coin-operated dryer(s) and washing machine(s) on every level.
2Rooms: Complete with bed, study desk, wardrobe, standing fan, air-conditioning unit. The toilet
          is separated into wet and dry areas, the power system runs on card access, and there are internet cables.


III. Security system for dormitories: Both dormitories are equipped with electronic access management
      systems, and surveillance cameras in operation round-the-clock are located at the exits and surroundings 
      of the dormitories. For more information regarding the dormitory rules, please refer to our university’s
     “Handbook for Management of Student Dormitories”.


IV. Dormitory fees:
1. After being allocated a dormitory, residents should stay in the said facility for a period of one academic
     year, and pay a security deposit of NTD 2,000 at the start of the first semester.
2. The fees are calculated per semester. Two-man rooms are NTD 7,600 per person per semester, while the
     three- and four-man rooms are NTD 6,500 per person per semester. (This does not cover accommodations
     during the winter and summer vacation.)
3. Electricity fees: The university provides for a basic level of electricity consumption, and those who exceed
    this allocation have to pay for more electricity.
4. To stay in the dormitory during the winter and summer vacations, students have to submit their application,
    be allocated rooms and pay the full dormitory fees before they can move into the residence.
